This week on the blog I posted my review of Seven Blades in Black and my experience with Ibotta! In publishing world everyone is in NYC for BookExpo and Book Con. I’ve been before, and I’m seeing my Facebook memories of all the books I got. I realized that of all the free books I received, I’ve only read a handful of them! 5-10 out of what 80 or so? That is a horrible ratio! So many books that I was never interested in, lost interest in, or only grabbed because it was free. What a wonderful privilege to go to BookExpo and I feel like I let it go to waste because I didn’t know what I liked to read. Or I didn’t have the skills to tell what was worth taking. But even though I was dying to go to Book Expo when I first got in the industry, now I can say that it doesn’t have the same pull as it once did.

Here’s what caught my eye this week!

1. Broke Millennial (aka Erin Lowry) talks with Gaby Dunn from Bad With Money about investing, and it was so fascinating! I love Bad With Money and I’ve started to get back into listening for this season of the podcast. If you’re interested in personal finance I recommend reading Broke Millennial and following her Instagram. She has a weekly AMA on her Insta Stories that is a must read. Investing is kind of next steps for me personally in my financial journeyy (though, honestly kind of far out in the future at this point), so I found this episode particularly informative. Especially when Erin points out that 401(k)’s are investment accounts so you should be more aware of what your money is doing.

2. I started reading The Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. I’ll be doing a full-review, but I just have to say how much I’m loving it right now! The premise is a young girl in Mexico resurrects an old Mayan god of death and they have to go on a quest together to help the god regain his throne. It’s set in 1920’s Mexico and I love the descriptions of the clothing and cities. And the cover is gorgeous!

3. Started watching The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel this week because we finally got an Amazon Prime password we could mooch off of! ha! It’s great and funny, and I love old time-y New York setting!

4. This video of Lil Nas X at an elementary school is so so so cute!

5. Happy Pride Month!
