This week was pretty interesting, didn’t do much work wise, but kind of recommitted myself to writing for this blog and creating my own content–I even made a potential editorial calendar! It’s kind of intimidating to “put myself out there” but really, it just something I want to do, so that’s all that really matters. In case you missed it, I posted my thoughts on people who are non-political yesterday. Here’s the rest of the internet links that have caught my eye!
1. Halloween reads to get you in a spooky mood care of my beloved 80 Books Blog.
2. Check out this adorable cat that is employed by a hotel in Iceland!
3. A recent read and one of my favorite books of the year so far is An Absolutely Remarkable Thing by Hank Green. I watch the Vlogbrothers youtube channel and, of course, I must mention that Hank is John Green’s brother, but I found that the novel really stands on its own. There’s a lot going on in this book, the protagonist April May becomes famous overnight for posting a video of first contact with a robot sculpture she calls Carl, which are much more than just the artwork she initially believes them to be. She has to deal with the fame and how to manage it, but also how she becomes obsessed with the Carls and being a person of authority on them. It’s a sci-fi story that also deals with the consequences of fame, but I particularly latched on to how people brand themselves and how it can spiral. Overall, interesting plot, themes, and readability. Good first novel, Hank!
4. From the New York Times: Major Climate Report Describes a Strong Risk of Crisis as Early as 2040
5. This song!
Hope you have a good week!
