If you have not experienced the joy of Muddy Buddies, I implore you to seek out these crunchy, sweet delights. They are my ultimate snack. Peanut butter and chocolate are the perfect combination! Naturally I had a craving, but none of my local stores sell them so I decided to make them on my own.
For anyone who is confused THIS IS NOT DOG FOOD.
Let’s begin! This recipe was adapted from BuzzFeed.
1 family size box of Corn Chex cereal (about 10 cups)
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
¾ cup creamy peanut butter
¼ cup butter
1 ½ cups powdered sugar, divided in half
Sprinkles (optional)
You will also need:
2 gallon-sized Ziploc bags
Very large (at least 4 quart) mixing bowl
Step one: Pour all the cereal into a large mixing bowl.
Step two: In a medium sized sauce pan melt the chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter on low heat, stirring constantly. (For this step, I would have used a microwave, but my bowls are not microwave safe!)
Step four: Transfer half of the chocolate covered mixture into a gallon sized bag. Repeat for second bag. (Easier to make two bags for the next steps.)
Step five: Divide powdered sugar in half and add respective halves to each bag (this can get messy).
Step seven: EAT ALL THE YUMMY
I ended up not using the sprinkles because I was deceived about how much powdered sugar I would be using and thought I would be able to add some color to the mixture. There are alternate recipes that use birthday cake mix and white chocolate that would be perfect with sprinkles! Another time, perhaps? This made enough for 5 sandwich sized bags for of Puppy Chow! And I ate most of it during the week….
