NIMONA!!! What an adventure! I absolutely fell in love with this character. She is smart, loyal, and a total bad-ass. As the sidekick for the resident “Evil Villain” she takes his plans and makes them into a reality. I can’t begin to describe her enthusiasm. And her abilities are totally awesome. What drew me in was Nimona’s emotional journey. It seemed predictable, but I was looking forward to what would happen. What was not predictable was the “villian” as a good guy, and the “good guy” as also a good guy. They never wanted to hurt each other, it was just the role that was assigned to them. And they were able to unite under a common front by the end.
I feel a bit deficient when I review graphic novels because I’m not sure how to review them when it comes to illustrations–which were amazing, Nimona is so cute! I like Stevenson’s art style. It’s not overly complex and it seems very fluid. Her use of color during the climax was especially vivid and appropriate for the action.
I wish I would have known about this web comic before it was published, but having to wait for new chapters of Nimona would have been torturous. I read a review that said the epilogue was new–and the epilogue was very fitting. Sometimes relationships don’t always repair themselves, but it would be nice to know that they worked out their problems (no spoilers, I promise). The extra content included two Christmas episodes which were adorable and basically sealed my fandom.
It’s such an immersive novel. I finished it rather quickly because it’s very easy to read, but it’s not a point of negative criticism, I just genuinely enjoyed it. I want to recommend it to everyone!
